A wide range of carriers. One person on your side.
Trusted insurance serving Lakeland, FL and surrounding areas.
Lakeland sits right in the middle of everything, halfway between Tampa and Orlando on I-4, and that middle position turns out to matter more for your Medicare decision than most people expect. Plan networks are drawn differently on either side of the county line, and a plan that looks excellent on paper can quietly leave out the doctor you have seen for fifteen years.
I am Bradley Stone, an independent insurance agent representing a wide range of top rated carriers. Independent means no carrier tells me what I have to sell, so when I sit down with someone in Lakeland I can compare the options side by side and show you the tradeoffs honestly. I do most of my appointments at people's kitchen tables, on their schedule, and Polk County is an easy drive for me. There is no charge for the conversation and no pressure at the end of it.
Most people in Lakeland are seeing someone at Watson Clinic, Lakeland Regional Health, or one of the independent practices around town. The single most useful thing you can do before choosing a Medicare plan is to find out whether your specific doctors participate in it for the coming plan year, because network participation gets renegotiated annually and it does change.
This is the question I check first for every Lakeland client, before we ever talk about premiums. A low premium on a plan your cardiologist does not take is not a bargain. If staying with your current doctors matters to you, that narrows the field fast, and it is much better to learn that in September than in February.
I am a licensed Florida insurance agent working as an independent Medicare broker, and that second word does more work than people expect. A captive agent represents one company and can only show you what that company sells. An independent broker is appointed with a wide range of top rated carriers and is paid the same regardless of which plan you pick, so there is no version of this where steering you somewhere pays me better.
When somebody searches for a licensed Medicare agent in Lakeland, or a Medicare advisor or specialist somewhere in Polk County, what they usually want is two things at once. Someone close enough to sit across a table from, and someone independent enough to give a straight answer. That is the whole job as I understand it. I cover Lakeland, Winter Haven, Auburndale, Bartow, Mulberry, and Lake Wales, and I do most of my appointments at kitchen tables rather than in an office.
There is never a fee for my time. Plan premiums are identical whether you enroll through me, through a call center in another state, or on your own, so working with a local broker costs you nothing and leaves you with someone in Florida to call when a claim gets confusing.
Publix is headquartered here, so a large share of the people I talk to in Lakeland are either retiring from the company or already have. If you have retiree coverage through a former employer, the question is not simply which Medicare plan is best in the abstract. It is how your existing coverage coordinates with Medicare, what happens to it when you enroll, and whether keeping it or replacing it leaves you better off.
That is a genuinely different conversation, and getting the order of operations wrong can cost you coverage or trigger a penalty you cannot undo. Bring your benefits paperwork to our first meeting and we will read it together before you sign anything or drop anything.
Your enrollment window opens three months before the month you turn 65 and closes three months after it. Inside that window you have choices and no medical questions. Outside of it, some doors close and some open only with underwriting, and Florida does not have the birthday rule that a few other states use to let you switch supplements freely later on. That makes the first decision more durable here than it is elsewhere.
Here is the math written out, because it is easier to see than to describe. Your Initial Enrollment Period is seven months long. It covers the three months before your birthday month, your birthday month itself, and the three months after. If you turn 65 in June, your window runs March through September. If you turn 65 in November, it runs August through February.
When you enroll inside that window matters too, and this is the part that costs people. Enroll during the three months before your birthday month and your coverage generally starts on the first day of your birthday month. Wait until your birthday month or later and the start date gets pushed back, which can leave you with a stretch of no coverage at all. There is no reward for waiting and there is real risk in it.
So the ideal time to call me is about four months before your 65th birthday. We will map your dates, look at your prescriptions, check your doctors, and compare what is actually available in Polk County. If you are already past 65 and think you made the wrong choice, that is still worth a conversation, because there are more paths than most people realize.
Yes. I do most of my appointments in people's homes, and Lakeland is a straightforward drive from my Orlando office. If you would rather do it by phone or video, that works too. Call 407.878.8277 and we will find a time.
That depends on the specific plan and the specific plan year, which is exactly why I check it before recommending anything. Give me the names of your doctors and I will verify participation for the options we are considering, so you are not finding out at the front desk.
It depends on what your retiree plan covers, what it costs you, and how it coordinates with Medicare once you enroll. There is no single right answer, and the sequence matters. Bring the paperwork and we will go through it line by line before you make a move.
Nothing. I am paid by the carrier you choose, at the same rate regardless of which one you pick, and plan premiums are the same whether you enroll through me or on your own. So the guidance costs you nothing and the coverage costs you no more.
Yes. I am a licensed Florida insurance agent and an independent Medicare broker, appointed with a wide range of top rated carriers. Independent means no carrier sets my recommendations, and I am paid the same no matter which plan you choose. I serve Lakeland and the rest of Polk County, and there is no charge for the conversation.
About four months before your 65th birthday. Your Initial Enrollment Period is seven months long, running from three months before your birthday month through three months after, and enrolling early in that window gets your coverage started soonest. Calling a month before the window opens gives us time to check your doctors and your prescriptions without anyone rushing.
